Annual Learning to Shape Birmingham Conference

‘The Birmingham Headteachers Conference’

Tuesday 24th and Wednesday 25th September 2019

National Conference Centre, Solihull

After the launch in 2016, the conference now returns annually in September.

An annual Birmingham Headteachers conference is a well-established tradition. Last year saw Birmingham Education Partnership, Services For Education and Link2ICT join forces to bring to Birmingham Headteachers a very successful conference focussing on collaborative school improvement, great leadership and best practice in classrooms.

This year, we worked together again bring you a rich and powerful programme. This was designed to inspire and inform as we seek to grow our culture of collaboration to improve Birmingham schools together. We are responsible for the experience the pupils have when they are in our schools. What can be more important than taking time out to think together, to be challenged and inspired about our curriculum choices? Both strategic and operational across two days, this year’s conference offered school leaders substantial, timely and practical input.

On day one, we had a series of outstanding keynote speakers, including Andy Buck, Simon Topham, Jim Roberson and Mary Myatt. Mary provided coherence throughout and began our conference by exploring questions around curriculum purpose and leadership that matter to us all.

On day 2, we were excited to welcome internationally acclaimed speaker, Andy Hargreaves. Andy is a world expert on effective collaboration and school improvement.

Following Andy, there was a packed programme of workshops to choose from with distinct strands of Leadership and Governance, Curriculum and Inclusion.

This year the conference aimed to provide inspiration for Governors as well as a space for them to share in training and development. We worked with BCC School & Governor Support to ensure a selection of workshops that provided opportunities for Governors to extend their knowledge, skills and understanding. Governors were also invited to join School and Governor Support for a special breakfast to meet and connect with fellow Governors whilst celebrating the start of “Year of the Governor” at the start of day 2.

The conference as always, offered us all the opportunity to connect with colleagues from across our city.

Thank you for attending and watch this space for next year’s dates coming soon!
